The Artist
Gary Hartman
A sculptor who picked up a brush — and hasn’t put it down since. Over a thousand paintings later, he works in acrylic, digital, and oil pastel from a studio in Social Circle, Georgia.
Where he started
Originally from Pennsylvania, Gary’s lifelong passion for art began in school, where he majored in fine arts with a specialization in sculpture — learning to think in weight, mass, and form before he ever thought in color.
The return
After a corporate career and a tenure in the golf industry, he came back to his craft full-time. In recent years he expanded from three-dimensional forms to the canvas, taking up acrylics, oil pastels, and digital painting.
The work
His paintings capture the serene beauty of landscapes and coastal life alongside expressive abstract and figurative pieces — a catalog that spans calm and complex, unified by a sculptor’s sense of weight and form.
Artist Statement
"My practice is rooted in a lifelong pursuit of serenity — a theme that has followed me from my origins in abstract sculpture to my current work on canvas. Whether I am working with digital pigments or real-world acrylics, my goal remains the same: to translate the three-dimensional weight of my sculptural past into two-dimensional windows of profound peace and calm."
